Recent Iburst behaviour:
WAPA unhappy about "iBurst’s lack of integrity"
It's a primal human tribal urge, a natural survival strategy of humanity, to warn others of mean, horrible, ugly things we have encountered. There is a really obvious reason for this: Next time, the person that was not warned could be … us!

And... many contribute to this warning. Here's a sampling of what iburst customers have to say about Iburst.

What to do:

    1. Care enough for your fellow citizens to warn them. It's dangerous out there.
    2. Send your iburst stories to: metoo@iburstmyballs.co.za
    3. Mainly, tell your frustrated friends about this website   ;-)
    4. Record/log your iburst billing and your actual bandwidth usage, and join the legal action.

    Specific areas of concern:

    1. Iburst founding it's business on spamming (check your old spam boxes for "tradepage").
    2. "Wireless ADSL" functionality not a reality. GB's of data "used" and paid for without actually managing to move the data!
    3. Treating customers as "bad debtors" for complaining or stopping payment over inadequate/absent service.
    4. Continuing to bill via debit order after having been informed of cancellation.

It is intended that editorial criticism of Iburst here be positive. An attempt will be made to analyse the underlying causes. Please send your suggestions, ideas and information on the causes of Iburst behaviour. It would be good for the country if this could be "fixed".

    Preliminary appearances are:

    • The iburst service is apparently just plain incapable of large contiguous down/uploads. Not dodgy. Just it can't. The connection is reset too often.
    • The iburst "contract" basically ammounts to you going to the bank, borrowing a large capital sum (equivalent to all payments for the duration of the contract) and handing it over to Iburst. Basicaly, it seems they are paid out the "value" of your contract and so have no motivation to keep service going. This seems to be why stopping payment to them (difficult with a debit order) to get attention does work. Threats about blacklisting and such follow…
    • Suspect ethics, high enough in the company to have these effects, or a corporate culture which inadvertently supports unethical and ugly behaviour.

Of course, the major cause is the inneficient ugliness of Telkom, and our government's covert but obvious program to keep South Africans poor and ignorant. This is not an unfair, or even debatable statement. It is an obvious truth. South Africa TAXES textbooks and makes it's citizens pay mobile-internet rates for severely capped adsl. QED. Against this background, Iburst can suceed financially while treating it's customers even worse (at least in this reporter's personal experience) than Telkom.

COMMENTSLEGAL ACTION

Iburst's response to this site so far has been to harrass it's creator with threats and fraudulent "letters of demand".

Naturally, even though their high management has ordered that I be removed from all their mailing lists, I continue to recieve their spam. I even recieve the occasional internal email. One of their people either accidentally or deliberately bcc's me from time to time.

When asked why iburst does not regard non-delivery on their part as a pretty good reason for a customer to stop paying, a reseller of theirs wrote:
"This is a very simple process, you sign a contract for 24 months = you pay for 24 month. At the end of the period you may renew or cancel and the hardware becomes your property. Should you not pay the contract duration we blacklist you on ITC." Dion Carter, iburst reseller
